STIPENDIATEN - Working Conditions

Working conditions at Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf

(as at August 1999)


Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf supports writers, visual artists, composers and academics. At the present the house has room for 24 scholars at a time, which amounts to about 60 guests per year.

Every fellow will have their own room (ca. 12-20 square meters) and bathroom. Furnishings include colour TV, radio recorder, and telephone. The living areas are cleaned once a week, and sheets and towels are changed regularly. Visual artists will also have a studio of their own.


Facilities


computer

There is a computer room available with four work stations. 3 PC systems incl. CD-ROM drive, Winword 7.0, 15" monitor, HP-Deskjet 600; 1 PC system incl. CD-ROM drive, Quark-X-Press, 19" monitor, scanner, laser colour printer; internet access (coin-operated)


bicycles

Bicycles are available free of charge.

Sending faxes is possible in the reception office.


library

5500 volumes with main emphasis on German literature, visual arts, music, philosophy. Romantic section (ca. 500 volumes); sheet music section (ca. 600 volumes); publications of former scholars. The library is being continuously expanded. An extensive reference library with various encyclopaedias and dictionaries can be found in the computer room (see computer).


musical instruments

1 Förster grand piano, 1 Zimmermann baby grand, 1 Förster piano, 1 harpsichord, 1 synthesiser Roland E-38. The two composers' flats are furnished with a plain piano each.


newspapers /
magazines

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung, Neue Züricher Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tagesspiegel, Die Zeit, Der Spiegel; Herald Tribune (USA); various specialist journals on visual arts, literature and music (in German language).


photocopier

1 black and white copier (A3, A4, enlarging, reducing)


projectors

2 slide projectors, 1 overhead projector


typewriters

Electric typewriters are available free of charge


video equipment

1 S-VHS camera with tripod, 1 S-VHS video recorder with monitor


washing machine

For personal laundry a washer and a dryer are available (coin-operated).


shuttle service

Every Monday and Friday at 10 a.m. the mini-van of the house leaves for Jüterbog. Fellows and their guests can ride free of charge in order to take care of necessary errands.


Food


The house has its own kitchen. Special dietary wishes are available.
